At a recent gathering in Lagos, the coalition of young politicians under the banner of Omoluabi Progressives urged leaders at all levels to deepen democratic engagement by carrying citizens along in decision-making processes.

Speaking during the event, the Lagos State chairman of the group, Rilwan Usman, emphasised the urgent need to bridge the widening disconnect between public officials and the communities they serve.

“True democracy thrives when ordinary citizens are involved in shaping policy and direction.

Our mission is to ensure that those at the grassroots are not sidelined but remain the foundation of democratic participation,”Usman stated.

He described the current political climate as one that requires deliberate and bold efforts to promote accountability, transparency, and civic engagement.

The Omoluabi Progressives, active across the South West, are positioning themselves as a platform for emerging leaders committed to integrity and developmental politics.

According to Usman, the group will intensify grassroots mobilisation across local communities in Lagos and beyond, focusing on policies that directly affect young people and underrepresented groups.

He also called for greater youth participation in leadership, noting that inclusive governance begins with empowering the next generation to take part in policy formation and civic responsibility.

The coalition reaffirmed its commitment to a political system that reflects the aspirations of the people, especially those historically left out of the democratic process.
