According to the revised provisional list obtained from the UN, Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is scheduled to speak on Day 2 of the high-level General Debate, around 8:30 PM local time (2:30 PM Nigerian time).
The Nigerian leader is listed as the 17th speaker of the day, joining 195 global dignitaries, including 98 heads of state, at the iconic General Assembly Hall.
This year’s event marks the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 80), themed: “Better Together: 80 Years and More for Peace, Development, and Human Rights.”
President Tinubu’s upcoming speech is expected to address Nigeria’s position on global issues, including security, climate change, development, and diplomacy, and it symbolizes a significant reaffirmation of Nigeria’s influence on the world stage.
His participation follows last year’s unusual but diplomatically significant event where Vice-President Kashim Shettima represented Nigeria, maintaining Tinubu’s prime speaking slot despite the President’s absence.
UN sources have hinted that Tinubu’s placement may still be adjusted, depending on final confirmations.
However, his current schedule underscores Nigeria’s enduring goodwill and strategic diplomacy within the UN system.
The weeklong event will feature other high-level meetings, including those on climate action, artificial intelligence governance, and the 30th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women.
