The group, which supports President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election efforts, expressed outrage over a viral voice message that suggested possible political retribution against its loyalists.
In a statement released by its Director of Media, Oyewamide Ojo, the movement described the development as disturbing.
The voice note reportedly detailed a high-level meeting involving the state governor, local government chairmen, and senior officials, where threats of removal from public office allegedly targeted members of the group.
Ojo emphasized that the Grassroot Movement for Tinubu exists solely to amplify the achievements of President Tinubu through impactful initiatives like free medical outreach and youth-focused sports programs.
He dismissed any suggestions of political disloyalty, stating that the group has no involvement in local government funding or partisan rivalry.
He further revealed that the pressure had already caused one councillor, Mr. Babatunde Falae, to resign from the group, though GMT remains committed to the APC and its leadership. He urged all stakeholders to prioritize unity and embrace dialogue over division.
In response, the Ondo Solidarity Forum, aligned with Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, rejected GMT’s claims as baseless.
The forum, through a statement signed by Obadofin Ademola, described Aiyedatiwa as a peaceful and inclusive leader with unwavering loyalty to President Tinubu.
Ademola encouraged the group to steer clear of unnecessary internal conflicts and instead focus on party-building efforts that can strengthen the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
The Grassroot Movement for Tinubu continues to maintain that loyalty to President Tinubu should not be misconstrued as opposition to the state leadership, insisting on fair treatment and mutual respect within party ranks.
