National Economic Council Meeting Tackles Key Policies

National Economic Council meeting led by VP Shettima convenes in Abuja with state governors to review economic coordination and planning strategies

National Economic Council meeting chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima took place Thursday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, bringing together state governors and key policymakers to deliberate on economic coordination and national planning.

The session, which holds constitutional significance for its advisory role to the president on economic matters, drew high-level participation from across the country.

Also present was Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), the Sole Administrator of Rivers State

The National Economic Council meeting is tasked with guiding the president on major fiscal matters. Thursday’s deliberations revolved around:

  •  Economic planning and coordination
  •  Allocation of national revenues
  •  Review of current economic policy implementation
  •  State-level updates and collaboration strategies

This platform continues to be a key pillar in the government’s efforts to align federal and state economic strategies.

Analysts note that the presence of a broad mix of governors from across political parties and regions underlines growing intergovernmental cooperation, particularly at a time of fiscal reform and economic pressure.
