Osun LG Allocation Crisis Sparks Fierce PDP–APC Clash

Osun LG Allocation Crisis deepens as PDP drags AGF and Oyetola to embassies, accusing them of disobeying court orders; APC insists court ruling favors it

Osun LG Allocation Crisis has taken a tense turn as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC) lock horns over the alleged seizure of local government funds in Osun State.

The PDP has accused the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, and the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, of masterminding the crisis by defying a Court of Appeal ruling that reinstated PDP-elected chairmen and councillors.

According to PDP Chairman Sunday Bisi, both officials have unlawfully withheld local government allocations for over five months.

Calling the situation an “open threat to democratic governance,” the PDP has written petitions to Western embassies and global rights organizations.

It is demanding visa bans and punitive measures against Fagbemi and Oyetola, citing abuse of power and blatant disregard for the rule of law.

“We want global intervention to expose and curb actions threatening democracy in Osun ahead of the 2026 and 2027 elections,” Bisi stated in a strongly worded release.

In a fiery response, the APC dismissed the allegations as misinformation. The party’s Director of Media, Kola Olabisi, asserted that a February 10, 2025, Court of Appeal judgment reaffirmed the APC’s control over local governments, contradicting the PDP’s claims.

He said the PDP’s petitions were “a waste of time,” urging embassies and rights bodies to ignore what he described as “political tantrums” intended to mislead the international community.

“The rightful leaders are in the process of collecting the allocations. PDP is merely trying to rewrite the legal narrative they failed to challenge in court,” Olabisi said.

As the Osun LG Allocation Crisis unfolds, the issue reflects growing political tension ahead of upcoming national elections.

With both parties doubling down on conflicting court interpretations, the matter appears headed for prolonged legal and diplomatic attention.
