Ondo master plan development unveiled as key to transforming Akure and other cities, says Commissioner Sunday Olajide after assuming duty in Akure
A renewed commitment to the Ondo master plan development has been announced by the Ondo State Government as a strategy to modernise cities and drive orderly urban growth.

This pledge was made on Wednesday by the newly appointed Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr Sunday Olajide, following his assumption of office at the ministry’s headquarters in Akure.
Mr Olajide, one of 16 commissioners recently sworn in by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, stated that Akure and other key cities in Ondo State are long overdue for a comprehensive master plan.
He stressed that structured development was necessary to avoid future urban chaos and ensure infrastructural progress.
He assured that the administration would prioritise citywide planning frameworks that support housing, transport, environment, and utilities across the state.
“We are going to turn Akure, the state capital, into an Eldorado,” he said, while reaffirming the governor’s interest in transforming the state’s capital and satellite towns.
The Ondo master plan development is expected to usher in a new era of urban order and investment-friendly infrastructure.
Olajide said the project would involve extensive collaboration and serious policy execution.
He urged the ministry’s staff to demonstrate commitment and unity, noting that Governor Aiyedatiwa places high importance on the ministry’s performance.
In response, the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Gbenga Akingbasote, advised the commissioner to urgently implement a modern development blueprint for Akure and other fast-growing cities.
He emphasised that the civil service team was ready to support the administration’s development goals.
The Ondo master plan development forms part of a broader strategy by the state government to modernise communities, align infrastructure with population growth, and attract sustainable investment.
Olajide, a former lawmaker with two legislative terms, promised to lead the ministry with focus and purpose, pledging to make it one of the most efficient arms of government.
The commissioner also encouraged residents and stakeholders across Ondo State to cooperate with physical planning directives that will emerge from the coming master plan.
As urbanisation continues to reshape Nigeria’s landscape, states like Ondo are seeking proactive and modern approaches to planning that balance economic growth with social and environmental sustainability.
