ADC Not a Threat to PDP Dominance in Bauchi, Says Chiroma

PDP’s Bala Chiroma insists ADC not a threat in Bauchi or Nigeria, dismissing the coalition as lacking grassroots structures and national political relevance

A chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party, Bala Chiroma, has insisted that ADC not a threat to PDP’s dominance in Bauchi State or across Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections, despite growing speculation over mass defections and emerging coalitions.

Chiroma, who serves as Senior Special Assistant on Youth to Governor Bala Mohammed, dismissed fears that the new political front under the African Democratic Congress could derail the PDP’s electoral momentum.

Speaking to journalists in Bauchi, he stated that the ADC lacks the structure, grassroots network, and public trust required to challenge the PDP’s position.

According to him, “ADC is not a party in the true sense. It’s just a loose alliance or an association. Unlike PDP, it has no enduring structure in the 774 local government areas. It cannot compare to the legacy and reach of the People’s Democratic Party.”

He described the PDP as Nigeria’s most consistent political brand since 1998, with a track record of internal democracy and policy achievements.

Chiroma added that the APC and now the ADC are mostly made up of former PDP members who left for selfish interests.

“Only PDP has stayed true to its vision and never needed to rebrand or merge. Every other party trying to rise today is a splinter from us. They were made by PDP, and now they want to destroy it,” he said.

Chiroma questioned the ADC’s visibility in the electorate’s imagination, especially at the grassroots level, noting that many Nigerians still have no idea what the coalition stands for.

“With one year left to elections, how can a party with no structures hope to win? The ordinary man on the street doesn’t even know what ADC represents,” he argued.

He said recent defections from PDP to ADC in Bauchi State do not constitute a real threat, calling those who left “beneficiaries of PDP’s goodwill who are now turning against their roots.”

Chiroma declared, “ADC not a threat at all. PDP remains the only party that can rescue Nigeria from its current economic and security crises. We have the vision, mission, and the people’s trust.”

He called on Nigerians to reject what he termed the “two-sided coin” of ADC and APC, saying both formations emerged from internal PDP conflicts and have failed to offer viable alternatives.

Arewa PUNCH reports that the statement follows the recent defection of political figures, including two ex-governorship aspirants—Abubakar Sadiq and Halliru Jika—to the ADC in Bauchi State.

However, Chiroma dismissed their move, questioning their electoral influence and relevance.

“What have they done for Bauchi or Nigeria? These are people chasing shadows, not building solutions,” he said.

In contrast, the Bauchi State ADC Chairman, Hassan Haruna, claimed the coalition is recording high-profile entries and is committed to building a new political culture based on transparency and youth engagement.

Haruna noted that the party is engaging disenfranchised groups and remains optimistic about its growing support base.

But Chiroma reiterated that ADC not a threat, even with the new entrants.

“Our people know who delivered during hard times. They know who stood by them through thick and thin. That legacy can’t be erased by opportunistic coalitions,” he concluded.

As 2027 approaches, the PDP in Bauchi appears determined to hold its ground despite the shifting alliances, with Chiroma urging loyalists to remain focused.

“The future of Nigeria rests with a tested party—not one cobbled together by defectors,” he said.
