The governor’s office announced the decision through a statement issued by Deputy Chief Press Secretary Mashood Agboola. The exercise aims to create opportunities for more members of the ruling party and inject fresh energy into the administration as it prepares for the next phase of governance.
The statement read: “Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has approved a minor cabinet shake-up involving all Special Advisers, Advisers, Senior Special Assistants, and Special Assistants. The decision, which is meant to extend opportunities to more party members and inject fresh energy into the administration, also affected the Deputy Chief of Staff and the Principal Private Secretary to the Governor.”
Governor AbdulRazaq expressed gratitude to the affected officials for their service. “His Excellency expresses his gratitude to all the appointees for their priceless service to the state. He wishes them the best in their future endeavours,” the statement added.
The government directed all affected appointees to immediately hand over government properties in their custody to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government.
Fresh appointments are expected to follow in the coming weeks.
This development occurs against a backdrop of heightened political activity across Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In recent days, the Nigeria Democratic Congress has been battling a court-ordered deregistration while uploading presidential candidate Peter Obi’s name to the INEC portal, and the Kwankwasiyya Movement has vowed that no judicial or political obstacles will derail its ambitions.
Meanwhile, the Federal High Court issued new Pre-Election Practice Directions 2026 on Tuesday to ensure speedy resolution of disputes.
In a separate intervention, Rotimi Amaechi warned about risks to INEC ad-hoc staff from politicians stealing result sheets at polling units.
Governor AbdulRazaq’s decisive action in Kwara reflects a common strategy by executives to refresh their teams midway through their tenure, aiming to maintain momentum and reward wider party loyalty.
The shake-up is described as minor but touches core advisory and support roles close to the governor.

Political observers will watch closely to see who replaces the outgoing aides and how the changes influence the administration’s performance and internal party dynamics in the state.
