Minority leadership in the House of Representatives reshuffle was formally declared shortly after the chamber commenced its legislative business for the day, bringing an end to weeks of political consultations and internal lobbying among opposition lawmakers.
Alongside Agbedi’s appointment, Abdusamad Dasuki, a legislator from Sokoto State, was named Deputy Minority Leader, while Mansur Manu Soro of Bauchi State was confirmed as Minority Chief Whip.
Speaker Abbas Tajudeen made the announcement on the floor of the House, signalling the conclusion of prolonged negotiations over the composition of the opposition leadership structure.
The development follows intense contestation among minority caucus members, which had recently spilled into public view during a protest led by some lawmakers who disrupted proceedings over demands relating to the leadership selection process.
House minority leadership appointment decision is expected to restore order within the opposition ranks, which had been divided over competing claims and political interests in recent weeks.
Fred Agbedi, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, now takes on the role of coordinating minority activities in the lower chamber, with his colleagues expected to support the new leadership arrangement.
Similarly, Abdusamad Dasuki of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, and Mansur Manu Soro of the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, will serve in key supporting roles within the opposition hierarchy.

Observers say the announcement marks a decisive step in stabilising the minority bloc as the House continues its legislative duties.
