ADC condemns Kwara killings, criticising Tinubu’s administration over security lapses and ineffective measures to protect citizens
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has strongly condemned the recent killing of about 170 people in Kaiama Local Government Area, Kwara State, describing the massacre as a glaring failure of security under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, said in a statement on Friday that the attack exposes the ineffectiveness of government efforts to address insecurity despite previous declarations of a state of emergency on security and promises to recruit thousands of police officers in November 2025.
“The horrific massacre is one of the worst atrocities recorded in recent times and stands as a painful reminder of the complete failure to protect innocent Nigerians,” the statement read.
The ADC raised concerns that heightened security activities last year may have been largely symbolic rather than substantive, pointing to continuing mass killings and abductions across the country as evidence that violence is being displaced rather than curtailed.
Abdullahi highlighted gaps in intelligence gathering, border control, inter-agency coordination, and emergency response as underlying causes of the insecurity.
The party called on the federal government to be transparent about the state of security, provide updates on the promised police recruitment, and implement actionable measures to prevent armed groups from moving freely across states.

“The government’s most fundamental responsibility is to protect the lives of its citizens. Nigerians deserve decisive action, not condolences after each tragedy,” the statement concluded.
