PDP Crisis Deepens as Aspirant Rejects Consensus Candidate Selection

Umaru APC resignation: Nasarawa lawmaker Jeremiah Umaru quits APC, citing unfair primaries and erosion of internal democracy

Jeremiah Umaru, the member representing Akwanga/Nasarawa Eggon/Wamba Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing deep dissatisfaction with the conduct of the party’s recently concluded primary elections.

Umaru officially quits APC, it was formally communicated in a letter dated May 28, 2026, and addressed to the APC Chairman of Gitta Ward in Wamba Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

Umaru, popularly known as Jakadan Wamba, said his decision followed what he described as troubling developments during the party’s primaries, which he believes have eroded the principles of fairness, transparency and internal democracy within the APC.

He stated that his confidence in the party’s commitment to credible electoral processes had been significantly weakened, adding that continued association with the party was no longer in good conscience.

The lawmaker expressed regret over what he called the growing culture of imposition, manipulation and disregard for the collective will of party members, warning that such trends risk undermining democratic participation within the party structure.

According to him, the APC he once joined and supported has drifted away from the values that attracted many dedicated members to its platform.

“I can no longer, in good conscience, remain part of a system that fails to uphold fairness, credibility, and respect for the aspirations of dedicated members,” Umaru stated in his resignation letter.

Despite his exit, Umaru expressed gratitude to party leaders, members and associates with whom he worked during his time in the APC, acknowledging the opportunities he had enjoyed while serving under the party’s platform.
