Oyo APC consensus candidate endorsed as leaders back Senator Sharafadeen Alli for 2027 governorship after consultations in Ibadan
IBADAN, Oyo State, Nigeria, 1 May 2026: Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State on Friday, 1 May 2026, endorsed Senator Sharafadeen Alli as the party’s consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election following a high-level meeting held in Ibadan, the state capital.

The decision was announced at a gathering attended by prominent APC stakeholders drawn from the five geopolitical zones of the state, where party leaders unanimously affirmed what they described as a strategic move towards unity ahead of the upcoming polls.
Senator Sharafadeen Alli, who represents Oyo South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, was formally presented as the preferred aspirant for the party under the emerging Oyo APC consensus candidate arrangement.
Senator Hamzat Adeseun, a chieftain of the APC from Ogbomoso, said the meeting was convened to consolidate support around a single aspirant after extensive consultations among stakeholders.
He noted that the decision was influenced by broader party considerations at both state and national levels.
Adeseun emphasised the importance of aligning with the leadership direction of President Bola Tinubu, describing him as the central figure in the party’s decision-making structure.
He stated that the endorsement reflects a desire to strengthen internal cohesion within the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
Another party leader, Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle from the Ibarapa axis, also confirmed the consensus position, stating that he had engaged in consultations that reinforced support for Senator Sharafadeen Alli.
He added that the outcome reflects a shared commitment among stakeholders to present a united front.
Ibikunle further disclosed that discussions within the party leadership indicated broad agreement on Alli’s candidacy, urging other aspirants to respect the consensus arrangement and work towards party stability.
The endorsement signals an early consolidation of political support within the APC in Oyo State as preparations intensify for the 2027 governorship contest. Party stakeholders say the move is aimed at avoiding internal divisions and strengthening electoral competitiveness.
