Abia PDP APC 2027 election tensions rise as PDP vows united front against APC, while APC rejects allegations of destabilisation plots
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State on Thursday declared its intention to build a united political front aimed at preventing the All Progressives Congress (APC) from taking over the Abia State Government House in the 2027 general election.

The announcement was made by Ikpegbu Emeka Yellow, Chairman of the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led factional Caretaker Committee of the PDP in Abia State, during a political briefing in Umuahia.
Emeka Yellow alleged that certain APC stakeholders were actively working to destabilise the state’s political environment ahead of the polls, insisting that the opposition party was uncomfortable with what he described as ongoing peace and development in Abia State.
Abia PDP factional chairman called on all political actors in the state, regardless of party affiliation, to unite in defence of democracy and resist what he described as a push towards a one-party dominance at the national level.
He further claimed that some former PDP members who defected to the APC were now central to alleged efforts to weaken the party in the state.
“We therefore call on all political leaders in Abia, irrespective of party affiliation, to rise above partisan interests and unite in defence of our democracy,” Emeka Yellow stated.
However, the Abia State APC swiftly dismissed the claims. Party Publicity Secretary Uche Aguoru said the faction led by Emeka Yellow lacked the credibility and authority to speak for the people of Abia State.
Aguoru insisted that the APC enjoys broad acceptance in the state and accused the PDP faction of attempting to undermine its own party while making baseless allegations.
He further alleged that the group was politically aligned against the PDP’s broader interests ahead of the 2027 elections.
