Obidient Movement rejects Atiku Obi alliance 2027 claim, with Yunusa Tanko backing Obi-Kwankwaso ticket as stronger opposition option
The National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko, has dismissed suggestions of an Atiku-Obi alliance ahead of the 2027 presidential election, insisting that such a pairing would not guarantee victory for the opposition.

Tanko made the remarks during an appearance on Channels Television’s politics Today, where he responded to claims by ADC chieftain Dele Momodu that a joint ticket between Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi would strengthen the opposition’s chances.
He rejected the proposal, arguing that the Atiku Obi alliance 2027 strategy would not resonate with voters or deliver electoral success.
Tanko maintained that the presidency should remain in the South, stressing that zoning considerations remain a decisive factor in Nigeria’s political balance.
He argued that any opposition strategy that ignores regional rotation would weaken its chances at the polls.
According to him, the most viable path for the opposition lies in restructuring its candidate formula around former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi.
Tanko also suggested that a partnership between Obi and former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso would present a stronger electoral option.
He described the Obi-Kwankwaso combination as a more effective formula, claiming it could significantly reshape the dynamics of the 2027 presidential race.
