Plateau APC Crisis Deepens as Dakur Defects in Blow

Plateau APC crisis defection Dakur intensifies as ex-commissioner leaves APC for ADC and declares 2027 governorship ambition in Plateau State

The internal crisis within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State escalated on Monday as former Commissioner and political chieftain Chief Jude Eli Dakur defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where he also declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election.

The Plateau APC crisis defection Dakur marks another significant setback for the ruling party in the state, coming amid a series of high-profile exits that have raised questions about internal cohesion and stability.

Chief Jude Eli Dakur made his declaration during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Kerang district, Mangu Local Government Area, where he formally announced his departure from the APC and unveiled his gubernatorial ambition under the ADC platform.

He stated that his decision was driven by a desire to pursue what he described as a more inclusive and people-centred political vision, anchored on transparency, sincerity, and effective governance.

Dakur also accused the APC of drifting away from the aspirations of committed members, suggesting that the party was no longer aligned with its foundational objectives.

His defection follows closely on the heels of another prominent departure from the APC, as former governorship aspirant Brigadier General John Sura recently exited the party, further intensifying speculation about widening cracks within the state chapter.

Although Brigadier General John Sura did not publicly state his reasons for leaving the APC, political observers have linked the trend of defections to shifting alliances and internal tensions within the state’s political landscape.
