APC Chairman Yilwatda Pledges Inclusion, Says Legacy Members Will Not Be Sidelined

APC Chairman Nantewe Yilwatda assures inclusion, outlining a power-sharing formula to balance legacy members and new entrants in the party

The APC inclusion power sharing formula, according to him, is designed to balance the interests of legacy members and defectors without allowing any group to dominate the party structure.

Yilwatda gave the assurance on Tuesday in Abuja after a closed-door meeting with APC stakeholders from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

He said the party remains a “home built by its founding members,” stressing that no new entrant should attempt to take control at the expense of those who established it.

The APC chairman added that the party would adopt a structured power-sharing arrangement to ensure fairness and inclusiveness across all blocs.

According to him, the framework will incorporate gender inclusion, geopolitical balance, youth participation, and representation of indigenous communities within the FCT and across Nigeria.

Yilwatda explained that women would be given substantive executive roles, not limited to auxiliary positions such as women leader roles.

He also highlighted a five-dimensional structure that ensures equitable representation across the country’s six geopolitical zones.

The party chairman confirmed that a committee led by the Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Zephaniah Jisalo, has already implemented zoning arrangements for the FCT chapter.

He noted that no complaints had been recorded so far regarding unfair treatment within the party’s internal structure.

Yilwatda further stated that defectors seeking positions must provide formal resignation evidence from their former parties before assuming roles within the APC.

He also referenced constitutional provisions limiting tenure in office, stressing that no individual should hold the same position for more than eight consecutive years.

Reaffirming his position, the APC chairman said inclusion remains the core principle guiding his leadership philosophy.

He added that his own background as a minority underscores the importance of ensuring all ethnic and regional groups are accommodated within the party structure.
