Vatsa Issues Warning Over APC Imposition Tensions

APC candidate imposition warning issued by Jonathan Vatsa, urging fair primaries ahead of 2027 elections to protect party unity and success

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Jonathan Vatsa, speaking from Minna, Niger State issued a stern warning over internal party practices, cautioning that the APC candidate imposition warning he raised could threaten the party’s unity and electoral prospects ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Vatsa, a former Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism in Niger State, urged the party leadership to uphold internal democracy and ensure a level playing field for all aspirants during primaries.

He warned that any move to impose candidates or rely on automatic tickets and unconsented consensus arrangements could trigger internal divisions and weaken the ruling party’s support base.

According to him, only a transparent and credible selection process would guarantee cohesion within the party and strengthen its chances at the polls.

“Imposing unpopular candidates could trigger anti-party activities and create setbacks for the ruling party during the general elections,” Vatsa said.

He further stressed that the opposition remains capable of exploiting any internal crisis within the APC, warning that unresolved grievances could prove politically costly if not addressed early.

The APC candidate imposition warning formed a central part of his remarks as he called for fairness, inclusivity and wider consultation within the party’s structures.

Vatsa noted that allowing broadly acceptable candidates to emerge would reduce tensions and ease campaign burdens, while undemocratic practices could have long-term consequences for party stability.

Beyond internal party politics, Vatsa also expressed concern over Nigeria’s worsening security situation, describing the rising wave of banditry as a troubling reflection on governance.

He drew parallels with past political cycles, suggesting that insecurity and economic hardship could influence public sentiment against the current administration.
