The governorship bid 2027 was announced on Friday during an ADC meeting and shared by ADC Vanguard, the party’s coalition mobilisation wing, on X, where the declaration quickly gained attention.
In a video clip circulated by the group, Funso Doherty stated his intention to seek the governorship seat, expressing confidence in his renewed political direction under the ADC platform.
ADC Vanguard described Doherty as a strong and credible candidate, stating that the party had positioned a “sellable” figure capable of mounting a serious challenge in Lagos State politics.
The Funso Doherty Lagos governorship bid 2027 follows his recent exit from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, which he left after citing internal crises and a controversial court ruling that deepened factional divisions within the party.
Doherty explained that his resignation was driven by concerns over party leadership struggles and what he described as the need for credible political alternatives in Lagos governance.
He had previously contested the 2023 Lagos governorship election under the ADC before defecting to the PDP, marking a return to the party where he first gained electoral prominence.

Political observers say his return to the ADC could reshape opposition dynamics in Lagos ahead of the 2027 elections, particularly as parties begin early mobilisation efforts.
