Sanusi gave the warning in Abuja during an engagement with members of the Lugbe community as part of activities marking the 2026 National Police Day.
He urged young people to avoid being used by politicians to commit acts that could endanger lives or destroy property.
According to him, political participation must remain peaceful and within the bounds of the law.
“You must not allow people to induce you or use you in a manner that is unbecoming that can endanger your lives or lead to destruction of life and property,” he said.
Sanusi stressed that every citizen has a constitutional right to political affiliation but warned that such rights must be exercised responsibly.
He also cautioned political actors against actions that could trigger violence during elections.
The police chief warned against ballot box snatching, attacks on opponents, destruction of electoral materials, and obstruction of electoral officers.
“Don’t indulge in snatching of ballot boxes, attacking other political party supporters… destroying electoral materials, as well as blocking of roads,” he said.
Sanusi said such acts constitute serious electoral offences that will not be tolerated.
He assured that the police would collaborate with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), communities, and other stakeholders to ensure peaceful and credible elections in the FCT.
