Ikpeazu PDP convention unity message highlights call for reconciliation, renewal and rebuilding at PDP national convention in Abuja
Former Abia State Governor and Chairman of the 2026 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention Planning and Organising Committee, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, has declared that despite recent electoral losses, the party retains its status as Nigeria’s most structured political platform.

Speaking during his opening remarks at the 10th Elective National Convention of the PDP in Abuja on Sunday, Ikpeazu said the party’s institutional strength remains intact as it works toward renewal and unity.
The Ikpeazu PDP convention unity message was delivered at a gathering themed “Inclusiveness, Unity and Renewal,” where delegates are expected to elect new members of the National Working Committee to lead the party for the next four years.
Ikpeazu reminded party members that the last elective national convention took place in October 2021 at Eagle Square, Abuja, noting that the party had since experienced internal strains and institutional challenges.
He explained that these developments eventually led to the intervention of the National Executive Committee at its 104th meeting in December 2025, which constituted a caretaker structure to stabilise the party.
According to him, the current convention represents a historic turning point for the PDP, marking what he described as renewal, rebirth and democratic reaffirmation.
“The PDP remains Nigeria’s most experienced, most structured and most nationally rooted political party because of your loyalty and support,” Ikpeazu said.
He added that while the party may have lost some elections, its organisational strength and national reach remain unmatched, urging members to safeguard that legacy with greater commitment.
The Ikpeazu PDP convention unity message also stressed the need for urgent reconciliation, rebuilding trust and strengthening internal democracy across all levels of the party.
Ikpeazu commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, describing him as a stabilising force within the party during difficult periods, alongside other leaders such as former Senate President Bukola Saraki.
He urged incoming National Working Committee members to act decisively in healing divisions and restoring cohesion, warning that the task ahead is both urgent and unavoidable.

“Let inclusiveness define our engagements. Let unity shape our actions. Let renewal guide our mission,” he said, calling on delegates to take the spirit of the convention back to their constituencies.
