PDP factional convention warning as Gbenga Hashim urges Wike camp to avoid actions that could worsen crisis and weaken party unity
The PDP factional convention warning was contained in a statement released to journalists, where Hashim described the alleged plan as a serious threat to party unity and electoral survival, urging all stakeholders to prioritise reconciliation over renewed confrontation.

Hashim said earlier efforts at internal reconciliation within the PDP had been derailed by what he termed the activities of a “fifth columnist”, accusing unnamed actors of working against a previously agreed unity arrangement meant to stabilise the party structure.
He stressed that any attempt to revisit divisive positions or establish parallel structures would undermine ongoing peace efforts and weaken the party ahead of future elections.
The aspirant specifically cautioned against interference in the leadership structures of state chapters in Plateau, Nasarawa, Kaduna and Kano, insisting that existing executive committees remain legitimate under the party’s constitution.
According to him, the tenures of duly elected state officials must be respected, warning that altering them arbitrarily could deepen internal fractures and export national-level disputes into otherwise stable states.
Hashim identified recognised state chairmen in the affected areas and urged party leaders to uphold agreed arrangements in order to avoid what he described as a “lose-lose political outcome”.
He further called on all factions within the PDP to return to the negotiation table and complete work on a unified leadership framework, stressing that cohesion remains the only viable path to restoring public confidence in the party.
