Seriake Dickson defects to Nigeria Democratic Congress, leaving PDP, citing party divisions and promoting NDC as the new opposition alternative
Senator Seriake Dickson, representing Bayelsa West, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the newly registered Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

The former Governor of Bayelsa State announced his decision at a media briefing in Abuja on Thursday, citing irreconcilable differences within the PDP as the primary reason for his departure.
“The PDP’s internal conflicts have shrunk its umbrella, making it incapable of accommodating many members, including myself,” Dickson said.
He added that the party has lost its voice on national issues and that leadership disputes had left it entirely crippled.
Senator Dickson described the NDC, recently registered by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as the emerging opposition party capable of providing a credible alternative in Nigerian politics.
He urged Nigerians to identify with the NDC and participate in its registration to help build a stronger, more effective opposition.
“This is a call to all Nigerians who desire a better future: join the NDC and support a party that can restore meaningful political dialogue and accountability,” Dickson said.

The move is expected to have significant implications for political alignments in the Niger Delta and may influence the strategies of both the PDP and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in upcoming elections.
