Edo Attack: PDP’s Emmanuel Ogidi Demands Thorough Probe

PDP chieftain Emmanuel Ogidi describes Edo attack on ADC members as a bad omen and urges President Tinubu to order a thorough investigation

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Emmanuel Ogidi, has called for a comprehensive investigation into the recent attack on members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Edo State.

Speaking to journalists on Thursday, Ogidi described the incident as a “bad omen” for Nigeria’s democracy, particularly as the country approaches the 2027 general elections.

He condemned the reported attack involving the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, and other ADC leaders.

Ogidi urged President Bola Tinubu to direct security agencies to immediately investigate the reported threats and ensure those responsible are prosecuted.

“It is unfortunate that we have reduced political contests to this level. First, it was bandits and herdsmen; now, politicians are going after one another,” he said.

He also referenced disruptions during elections in Abaji Area Council in Abuja, alleging that sponsored political thugs interfered with the process.

According to Ogidi, decisive action is necessary to prevent a recurrence and safeguard Nigeria’s political space from avoidable violence.

He further called for political tolerance among stakeholders, warning that continued intimidation could discourage citizens from participating in future elections.

“Nigeria belongs to all of us,” he added.
