NNPP Demands Removal of Lawmaker Seen at APC Meeting

NNPP Kano chapter calls for removal of Aliyu Sani Madakin Gini after photos show him at APC meeting, citing disloyalty to the opposition party

The Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has called for the removal of House of Representatives member, Hon. Aliyu Sani Madakin Gini, after he was pictured attending a stakeholders’ meeting of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in his Dala Federal Constituency.

Gini, who serves as Deputy Minority Leader in the House, was seen with APC leaders, prompting outrage on social media and raising questions about his loyalty to the opposition.

Several 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) users urged the House leadership to take action, noting that minority leadership positions should reflect clear opposition alignment.

One user wrote: “While he claims to be a member of the NNPP, he was seen attending an APC caucus meeting. If he has joined the APC, he should relinquish his position as Deputy Minority Leader.”

The NNPP described Gini’s actions as “unpatriotic and dishonest.” Engr. Ibrahim Abdullahi Karaye, the party spokesperson in Kano State, said the lawmaker had not officially communicated his status with the party.

“Of course, he wants to remain Deputy Minority Leader until the budget of next year. When he gets what he wants from the privileges, he will now officially decamp,” Karaye alleged.

In a follow-up statement, the party announced plans to petition the National Assembly leadership to replace Gini with a more committed NNPP member.

“The New Nigeria Peoples Party, Kano State chapter, is urging the leadership of the National Assembly to replace Hon. Aliyu Sani Madaki with a more committed NNPP member to safeguard the minority’s interests,” the statement read.

The party noted that Gini’s appearance at the APC meeting without resigning from the NNPP violated the party constitution and amounted to anti-party activity.
