Lagos Professionals Endorse Dr Abdul-Azeez Adediran for 2027 Governorship

Lagos Progressive Initiative endorses Dr Abdul-Azeez Adediran for 2027 governorship, citing fresh ideas and professional expertise to improve Lagos State

A coalition of Lagos-based professionals and innovators under the Lagos Progressive Initiative (PLI) has formally endorsed Dr Abdul-Azeez Adediran, also known as Jandor, for the 2027 Lagos State governorship election.

The endorsement was announced at a meeting held in Lagos last Sunday, where members deliberated on strategies to advance governance and sustainable development in the state ahead of the next general election.

PLI Convener Mr Wole Oladunjoye said the group supports Adediran because Lagos can achieve more with fresh ideas and renewed energy in governance.

He described Lagos as one of Nigeria’s most progressive states but noted it had not yet reached its full potential compared with leading global cities.

“Lagos is a progressive state and perhaps the most advanced in our country. However, we believe it can improve further by building on its current achievements,” Oladunjoye said.

He explained that PLI consists mainly of middle- and working-class professionals who are often underrepresented in politics, despite being well-informed and engaged.

Oladunjoye noted that many professionals avoid politics because of perceived challenges and limited avenues for meaningful participation.

PLI aims to close this gap by offering members opportunities to contribute to policy development, civic engagement, and voter registration drives.

Oladunjoye emphasised that professionals’ experience with global standards can help improve local governance and transform Lagos.

The group is backing Adediran because they believe leadership requires both innovative ideas and the ability to implement them.

Oladunjoye described him as a young, energetic leader capable of uniting stakeholders and delivering results.

During the event, Mr Seun Soyinka, Director of Communication and Strategy for the Lagos4Lagos Movement, highlighted Adediran’s political experience, community engagement, and readiness to challenge complacency in governance.

Soyinka called the candidate visionary, focused on people, and politically courageous.

Soyinka stressed that Jandor understands that running Lagos requires real systems, negotiation skills, and partnerships with diverse groups, including market traders, professionals, youth, and business leaders.

He added that involving professionals in political discourse will improve governance outcomes and create a more sustainable Lagos.

PLI representatives also clarified that the initiative is designed to support Lagos-focused ideas beyond the 2027 election cycle.

They highlighted that Adediran has committed to supporting the APC’s eventual candidate if he does not secure the party ticket, citing his past support for APC candidates in local elections.

The meeting concluded with a call for increased professional participation in politics, emphasising that achieving the “Lagos of our dreams” requires active involvement from all stakeholders.
