Ali Ndume warns northern discontent may influence 2027 elections, blaming President Tinubu’s aides, not the president himself
The lawmaker representing Borno South Senatorial District, Senator Ali Ndume, has attributed rising discontent in northern Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections to advisers surrounding President Bola Ahmed Tinubu rather than the President himself.

Ndume made the remarks, saying noting that northern dissatisfaction could strongly influence voter behaviour if unaddressed.
“I think Mr President, as a politician, as somebody who has gone through it all, is strategising to win the election, but not to declare himself as the winner… But in the north, if anybody tells you the North is not grumbling now, he’s not speaking the truth. The grumbling will be loud in their votes if nothing is done about it,” Ndume said.
He recalled meetings between President Tinubu and northern elders, in which critical northern appointees were included.
While the meetings were initially positive, Ndume claimed the promises were not fully implemented.
“The President is not the problem. It is the people around the President that are the problems,” he added.

Ndume emphasised that corrective measures are essential to avoid voter backlash in the North, suggesting that dissatisfaction could significantly affect the outcome of the 2027 elections if left unresolved.
