Aisha Yesufu says Nyesom Wike lied about G5 control in 2023, noting three of the governors lost Senate races the same day
Nigerian Democratic Congress chieftain Aisha Yesufu on Wednesday, 23 September 2026, accused Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike of lying about the G5 governors’ role in the 2023 presidential election.

Nyesom Wike had said the G5 let Peter Obi take votes in the South-South because the Peoples Democratic Party was strong there and they saw Atiku Abubakar as a threat. He said Rivers State was kept out of that arrangement so Peter Obi would not win the state.
Aisha Yesufu answered on X by pointing to the same-day senatorial races. “Wike LIED!!!!! 3 of the G5 Governors ran for Senate. They all lost!” she wrote. “If Wike was that powerful how come he couldn’t give them a win on an election that was on the same day and time!” She added that Nyesom Wike was “petrified of life outside of government.”
The post is a political rebuttal, not a court finding. Nyesom Wike’s version is that the G5 managed presidential votes in parts of the South-South.
Aisha Yesufu’s test is narrower: if that machine was so strong, three of the same governors should not have lost Senate seats on the same ballot. Both claims now sit in the 2027 argument over who can still move votes.

Neither side published a full table of those three Senate results in the Daily Post account. Readers should treat the “all lost” line as Aisha Yesufu’s charge until the names and official INEC figures are set beside it.
