Wike Declares Self Tinubu’s FCT Campaign Commander

Nyesom Wike declares himself Tinubu’s FCT campaign commander for 2027, announcing cross-party mobilisation involving APC and PDP stakeholders

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that he will coordinate President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign in the FCT and Rivers State ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.

Wike made the announcement on Monday, October 12, 2026, during a stakeholders’ meeting of the Rainbow Coalition in Abuja, where he outlined plans for a joint mobilisation involving members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The minister said political affiliations would not prevent stakeholders from working together to support Tinubu’s re-election bid.

He also disclosed that the coalition had agreed to support APC candidates contesting National Assembly seats in the FCT.

“For the presidency, all of us have agreed that it is Bola Ahmed Tinubu. I am going to coordinate the FCT and Rivers State. So you can imagine how important it is,” Wike said.

Wike described himself as the person responsible for coordinating field operations for Tinubu’s presidential campaign in the FCT.

“I am in charge of the FCT election. I am the commander of field operations as far as the FCT election is concerned,” he said.

The minister urged participants to prioritise the coalition’s shared political objective over their individual party affiliations.

He insisted that APC and PDP members should cooperate during the election campaign rather than allow party loyalties to undermine their collective efforts.

“I want to let all of you know that we are going to work together. Nobody should say, ‘I am PDP’ or ‘I am APC.’ For the purpose of this election, we are together,” he added.

The meeting brought together political stakeholders from both parties, including party chairmen, serving and former senators, National Assembly candidates and leaders representing the FCT’s six area councils.

The gathering focused on coordinating political mobilisation and building cooperation among the participating groups ahead of the 2027 polls.

PDP candidates contesting National Assembly seats also declared support for their APC counterparts, signalling a cross-party arrangement within the coalition.

The proposed collaboration is intended to bring together political structures and grassroots networks to support the coalition’s agreed candidates.

Wike, a prominent PDP figure who serves in Tinubu’s APC-led administration, has continued to occupy a significant position in discussions surrounding political alliances ahead of the 2027 elections.

His latest declaration places him at the centre of the Rainbow Coalition’s planned campaign activities in the FCT and Rivers State.

However, the announcement reflects the position and intentions expressed by Wike and the participating stakeholders at the meeting.

The eventual impact of the arrangement will depend on how the coalition coordinates its activities and how voters respond during the elections.

The 2027 general elections are expected to generate further political negotiations and alliances as parties and political leaders organise their campaigns across the country.
