After weeks of speculation, Governor Diri formally joined the APC on Monday, having resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on October 15, which he labelled a “sinking ship.”
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Dudafa — a former Senior Special Assistant on Domestic Matters and Social Events to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan — congratulated the governor, calling the move “a wise and well-considered decision that aligns Bayelsa State with the centre for accelerated development and greater political inclusion.”
Dudafa, who also served as Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Development, said Diri’s defection reflected his “pragmatic leadership style, guided by consultation, inclusiveness and the pursuit of the common good.”
He commended Diri’s decision to key into President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that its synergy with the governor’s Assured Prosperity Agenda would bring about greater transformation and development across Bayelsa and the Niger Delta region.
“Since assuming office, your guiding principle has been clear — to consult widely, act in the public interest and deliver measurable development outcomes. That same principle has informed your latest political alignment,” Dudafa stated.
The former lawmaker reaffirmed his loyalty to Diri, pledging continued support for the administration to consolidate peace, unity and progress in the state.
“We shall continue to stand by your leadership and lend our support to ensure that you finish strong. Your political maturity and developmental focus have repositioned Bayelsa for a brighter future,” he added.

Dudafa further maintained that aligning Bayelsa with the Federal Government under the Renewed Hope Agenda would guarantee inclusive governance and attract increased federal presence to the state.
