The move, described by President Bola Tinubu as rare and courageous, marks a strategic realignment with the Federal Government, aimed at unlocking greater development prospects for the State.
The grand reception ceremony at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo drew a massive crowd as Eno formally joined the All Progressives Congress.
President Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, commended the Governor’s leadership, saying it reflected vision, maturity, and national unity.
The President assured the people that Akwa Ibom’s realignment would attract greater federal support and ensure that long-standing infrastructural dreams such as the deep seaport become a reality.
According to him, the Federal Government would collaborate with the State to drive growth under the ARISE Agenda.
Governor Eno, in his speech, made it clear that the switch was not driven by personal ambition but by the pursuit of shared prosperity.
He maintained that his developmental agenda remained unchanged and reaffirmed his loyalty to the people of the State.
The Governor’s focus is on strengthening inherited structures rather than discarding them. He acknowledged the legacies of past leaders and pledged to continue projects that benefit the people, noting that federal alignment would make such goals more achievable.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio, also present at the event, applauded the decision and called it a bold reunion of Akwa Ibom with the political centre.
He emphasised the Federal Government’s support for the State, especially in achieving the long-delayed deep seaport project.
National APC Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, described the Governor as a wise leader who has chosen unity over division.
He officially declared him the leader of the APC in Akwa Ibom and praised the ARISE Agenda as a people-centred initiative that matches the APC’s national vision.
The event attracted politicians from across party lines and was seen as a show of solidarity for the Governor. Many described the moment as the beginning of a new political chapter for the State.
