Uba Sani criticises opposition parties, calling them unserious and driven by personal interests ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections
Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, speaking in Nigeria on Tuesday, 1 July 2026, during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time, criticised opposition political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections, accusing them of being driven by personal interests rather than a coherent national agenda.

Governor Uba Sani made the remarks while responding to questions on the state of opposition politics, describing the current opposition landscape as fragmented and lacking clear ideological direction.
“The current opposition in Nigeria, are they really fighting the ruling party because they believe in Nigeria?” he asked during the interview.
Governor Uba Sani said the opposition parties were not structured around shared political principles, arguing that their activities were largely motivated by individual ambition rather than collective policy goals.
“It’s all about their personal interests. These guys are not serious. They are not political parties based on what they believe in or what they can do,” he said.
He further criticised what he described as frequent defections among opposition figures, saying such movements reflected a lack of discipline and organisational stability within their parties.
“In the last three months, they have been jumping from one party to another, looking for a platform,” Governor Uba Sani said.
Governor Uba Sani added that credible political parties should be built on ideology, structure and long-term planning, stressing that consistency was essential to political development.
“If you are in a political party, you have to sit down, build, organise and do whatever is necessary to protect the party. You can’t be jumping from one party to another,” he stated.
The comments come amid rising political activity across Nigeria ahead of the 2027 elections, with parties intensifying internal realignments and early positioning for national contests.

Analysts say the governor’s remarks reflect ongoing tensions between ruling and opposition blocs as political actors begin to sharpen narratives ahead of the next electoral cycle.
