PDP Staff Reaffirm Loyalty to Turaki-Led NWC Amid Court Ruling

PDP staff and National Democratic Institute reaffirm loyalty to Turaki-led NWC, rejecting Ibadan court ruling annulling November convention

Senior management and staff of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have declared their loyalty to the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC), rejecting a recent Ibadan Federal High Court ruling that annulled the party’s November 2025 convention.

The declaration came on Tuesday, shortly after the Wike-backed caretaker committee of the PDP revised the dates for the party’s national convention from 28–29 March to 29–30 March.

The decision follows Monday’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting at the residence of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike in Abuja.

National Publicity Secretary of the caretaker committee, Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, said the date change was made “after careful consideration of certain factors” but did not disclose the specifics.

The NEC also dissolved the North-West, South-West, and Plateau State zonal committees, which will soon have caretaker committees appointed.

Despite the court ruling, PDP staff and officials, including the National Democratic Institute (NDI), insisted the Turaki-led NWC remains legitimate and legally recognised.

In a joint statement, 76 staff members reaffirmed their allegiance, citing compliance with the PDP Constitution, the Electoral Act 2022, and relevant Supreme Court precedents protecting political parties’ internal affairs.

The statement read, in part: “We reaffirm our recognition, loyalty and allegiance to the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki SAN-led National Working Committee of our great party, which was duly and legally elected at the Party’s National Convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on 15–16 November 2025.”

The staff also criticised the court for granting reliefs not sought in the suit and commended party leadership for filing an appeal and a stay of execution, arguing that this keeps the Turaki-led NWC legally intact and operational.

Key signatories included the Acting Director of Administration, Gambo Gaude; Director-General of the PDI, Dr Edward Ugbada Adie; and Director of Constitution and Electoral Matters, Nnorum Chinwe Ihuoma.

The move underscores the continuing leadership dispute within the PDP, highlighting tensions between the Turaki-led NWC and the Wike-backed caretaker committee ahead of the party’s upcoming national convention.
