Senator Liyel Imoke is an accomplished Nigerian lawyer and politician who served as the Governor of Cross River State from 2007 to 2015.
Born in 1961, Imoke’s political journey began early; he was elected a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 1992 at the age of 30, becoming one of the youngest legislators in the nation’s history.
Following the dissolution of that government, he transitioned to various private sector roles before being appointed Special Adviser on Public Utilities by President Olusegun Obasanjo in 1999.
His deep expertise in public utilities led to his appointment as Federal Minister of Power and Steel in 2003, where he played a pivotal role in implementing the Nigerian Power Sector Reform Act of 2005.
As Governor of Cross River State, Imoke initiated significant reforms in governance, public financial management, and education, leaving a lasting legacy of development and institutional strengthening.
