Bassey Edet Otu, born October 18, 1959, is the current Governor of Cross River State, Nigeria, a position he assumed on May 29, 2023, under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Popularly known as “Sweet Prince,” Otu’s political career is marked by extensive legislative experience.
He served in the House of Representatives from 2003 to 2011, representing the Calabar Municipal/Odukpani Federal Constituency, where he chaired the House Committee on Petroleum (Upstream).
Subsequently, he was elected Senator for Cross River South Senatorial District from 2011 to 2015, holding significant roles as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance and later, Banking and other Financial Institutions.
Before his foray into politics, Otu had a background in banking and the petroleum sector, and is also involved in farming.
His “People First Agenda” as governor prioritizes infrastructure, healthcare, education, and job creation, with notable efforts in revitalizing agriculture and supporting small and medium enterprises.
