Bello Muhammad Matawalle, born February 12, 1969, is a prominent Nigerian politician and educator currently serving as the Minister of State for Defence since 2023.
His political career is marked by diverse roles and party affiliations. He began in 1998, winning a seat in the Zamfara State House of Assembly under the United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP).
From 1999 to 2003, he served as a Commissioner in various capacities in Zamfara State, including Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Environment, Rural Development, and Youth and Sports.
Matawalle was elected to the House of Representatives for Bakura/Maradun in 2003, serving three terms until 2015, initially under the ANPP and later defecting to the PDP.
He achieved the pinnacle of state leadership, serving as the Governor of Zamfara State from 2019 to 2023. His experience spans legislative, executive, and now federal ministerial roles, showcasing a deep engagement with Nigerian governance.
