In a statement issued on Friday, Timi Frank US sanctions call centred on claims that the current administration is allegedly using state institutions to weaken opposition parties ahead of future elections.
Frank argued that such actions, if left unchecked, could undermine Nigeria’s democratic foundations.
Frank maintained that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration was allegedly working to ensure that no political party is able to present a strong challenger in forthcoming elections, describing the situation as a threat to political competition.
He warned that continued interference in democratic processes could push the country into a deeper political crisis, urging international stakeholders to take notice before tensions escalate further.
Timi Frank US sanctions call also accused key state institutions, including the judiciary and legislature, of being allegedly deployed to frustrate opposition voices.
He insisted that democracy must remain a contest of ideas rather than evolve into what he described as a “monarchical system.”
Frank further urged the United States, the United Nations, and other global partners to intervene diplomatically, stressing that Nigeria’s stability is critical given its large population and regional influence.
He cautioned that any breakdown of order in Nigeria could have far reaching consequences, including the risk of displacement and wider regional instability.
The call comes against the backdrop of recent controversy involving the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which reportedly delisted the leadership of the African Democratic Congress led by David Mark amid ongoing legal disputes.
The opposition has blamed the federal government, while INEC insists its actions were guided strictly by court proceedings.
