SDP Reaffirms Expelled Gabam as Gombe Remains Chairman

SDP leadership dispute Gabam Gombe: party insists Shehu Gabam remains expelled while Sadiq Gombe stays legitimate chairman

The Social Democratic Party (SDP), in Abuja, Nigeria, on Friday, reaffirmed that its former National Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, remains expelled from the party while maintaining that Sadiq Gombe continues as the legitimate national chairman.

The clarification was issued by the SDP National Publicity Secretary, Rufus Aiyenigba, amid rising tensions and conflicting interpretations of recent Court of Appeal rulings linked to the party’s Ekiti State governorship primary held on 8 August last year.

The SDP leadership stated that the situation reflects an ongoing SDP leadership dispute Gabam Gombe matter, which it says has been misrepresented in sections of the public space.

Aiyenigba accused Gabam of deliberately misinterpreting court pronouncements in an attempt to mislead the public and revive his political relevance.

He stressed that the party would continue to defend its internal structure, insisting that Gabam has no standing within the current leadership framework.

The party further described Gabam as part of its “documented past,” maintaining that his expulsion remains valid and binding on all organs of the SDP.

In its clarification, the SDP also stated that no court decision had removed Sadiq Gombe as national chairman, adding that the rulings being referenced relate strictly to disputes over governorship primaries in Ekiti and Osun States.

According to the party, the judgments have no bearing on its national leadership structure or internal administration.
