Sharafadeen Alli Oyo 2027 campaign promises include local government autonomy, cottage industries, education reforms and protection of state assets
Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Oyo State, on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, in Ibadan, pledged to give local government councils greater control over their finances and responsibilities if elected governor in the 2027 election.

Alli made the promise while addressing residents during a dialogue on the future of Oyo State organised by the Oyo Rising Citizens Forum in the state capital.
The APC candidate said his administration would end what he described as the practice of stifling local government councils, promising that councils would be allowed to use their resources to develop schools, health centres and other services within their jurisdictions.
“My administration will not spend one kobo belonging to local governments. They will build their schools, build their health centres and employ their own workers. That era of stifling the councils is over,” Alli said.
His comments placed local government administration at the centre of his campaign message, with Alli presenting greater autonomy as part of his proposed approach to governance in Oyo State.
The candidate also addressed concerns surrounding the ongoing circular road construction and its effect on residents whose properties or livelihoods may have been affected.
Alli said a committee would be established within 48 to 72 hours to examine the grievances of affected residents.
“I will set up a committee within 48 to 72 hours to address the grievances of all affected residents. We will not seize people’s land and we will not sell state assets,” he said.
The pledge comes as infrastructure development and land acquisition remain sensitive issues in discussions around urban expansion and road projects in Ibadan.
Beyond local government administration and infrastructure, Alli outlined several economic proposals for his campaign.
He said a government under his leadership would place greater emphasis on agriculture and mining while also establishing at least one cottage industry in every local government area of the state.
The proposal is aimed at expanding economic activity beyond the major urban centres and creating opportunities within local communities.
Alli also made education part of his campaign agenda, promising to reduce classroom populations to a maximum of 30 pupils per class.
The proposal would require additional classroom infrastructure and potentially more teachers to accommodate pupils while maintaining the proposed limit.
The APC candidate’s campaign message combines administrative reform with promises focused on employment, industrial development and public services.
His pledge on local government spending is particularly significant because local councils are responsible for several community-level services, including primary healthcare and basic education-related functions, although the extent of their financial and administrative autonomy remains a major issue in Nigeria’s governance debate.
Alli is a former senator who represented Oyo South Senatorial District and is seeking the APC governorship ticket’s mandate to lead the state from 2027.
His proposals will be considered alongside those of other candidates and political parties as the 2027 Oyo governorship contest develops.
For residents, the key issues raised at the Ibadan dialogue include the management of local government resources, the treatment of communities affected by infrastructure projects, economic opportunities and the quality of public education.

Alli’s latest commitments remain campaign promises and would depend on the legal, financial and administrative powers available to a state government if implemented after the election.
