Senate President Godswill Akpabio hails recent defections to the APC as acts of patriotism and confidence in President Tinubu’s leadership

Speaking on Wednesday night after leading Senator Agom Jarigbe of Cross River North and Senator Kaila Samaila of Bauchi North to meet with President Tinubu at the State House in Abuja, Akpabio said the lawmakers’ move underscored their belief in the President’s reform-driven agenda.

“They are Mr President’s children and his supporters. The President is the father of the nation and of all political parties,” Akpabio told reporters after the meeting.

He explained that although the two senators were elected on different political platforms, their decision to join the APC was inspired by the President’s transformative economic policies and his commitment to building a stronger, more prosperous Nigeria.

“Theirs is nothing but patriotism. They are not interested in which political party is in power but in who can run Nigeria effectively, who can improve Nigeria, and who can put food on the tables of Nigerians,” the Senate President Godswill Akpabio said.

Akpabio praised the President’s policies, noting that his administration’s focus on revenue generation and national development had earned admiration across political divides. He added that the Senate would continue to support policies that strengthen Nigeria’s economy and democratic institutions.

Senator Jarigbe, who recently left the Peoples Democratic Party, echoed similar sentiments, saying his defection was driven by conviction and faith in Tinubu’s performance.

“I joined the APC because the President is really doing well. I want to come in and support him in delivering the dividends of democracy to our people,” Jarigbe said.

His colleague, Senator Samaila, also expressed optimism that joining the ruling party would help accelerate development in his constituency and contribute to national progress.
