Lagos Lawmaker Apata Appeals to Tinubu Over APC Primary Row

Samuel Apata urges President Tinubu to intervene in APC primary dispute, alleging he was denied return ticket despite winning the poll

Member representing Somolu Constituency II in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Samuel Apata, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to intervene in an internal All Progressives Congress (APC) dispute over the outcome of the party’s primary election.

Apata alleged that he was denied the party’s return ticket for the 2027 elections despite what he described as a clear victory in the primary conducted by the APC.

Speaking during an interview in Lagos, the lawmaker insisted that the results announced did not reflect the votes cast by party members during the exercise.

He said he was confident of securing a second term, adding that he won the primary with a wide margin.

“I contested for the second-term ticket and won convincingly with 9,081 votes. It is unfortunate that someone who came a distant third, with only 677 votes, was eventually declared the candidate,” Apata said.

He stressed that he remained committed to party supremacy and due process, while expressing gratitude to President Tinubu for his leadership within the APC.

Apata added that he believed the President would intervene to ensure fairness and justice in resolving the matter.

“President Tinubu is a man of justice, and I am confident that he will look into this matter and ensure that the right thing is done,” he said.

The lawmaker also reflected on his political journey, noting his previous attempts to secure elective positions before eventually winning a seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly in 2023.

He highlighted several constituency projects he said he facilitated in Bariga, including road rehabilitation and the renovation of schools.

Apata maintained that his legislative experience over the past three years had strengthened his capacity to serve more effectively if given another term.
