Presiding over the session, Speaker Martin Amaewhule led the House in passing key resolutions, calling on Governor Siminalayi Fubara to immediately forward a list of commissioner-nominees for screening and confirmation.
In what is seen as a significant political moment for the state, the House also urged the Governor to commence preparations for an Appropriation Law to cover the remainder of the fiscal year.
Lawmakers noted the urgency in stabilising governance structures after a turbulent political period that included a widely reported power struggle within the state’s executive and legislative arms.
The Rivers Assembly Fubara nominees issue highlights the vacuum in the state’s executive council, which remains incomplete months after several commissioners resigned amid the crisis.
During the Thursday session, no mention was made of any direct response from Governor Fubara.
However, the resolutions indicate growing pressure on the Governor to normalise governance and deliver on policy promises.
The House’s call for a fresh appropriation bill is expected to realign the state’s financial planning following months of stalled legislative activity under the emergency order.
