ADC Rivers Says 8 Top Figures Eye Governorship Race

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State has disclosed that no fewer than eight prominent individuals have indicated interest in contesting the 2027 governorship election on its platform.

The development was announced in a statement signed by the State Chairman-Elect, Dr. Chukwudi Dimkpa, who described the surge in interest as evidence of growing political confidence in the party.

According to the party, the level of political engagement ahead of the 2027 general elections is unprecedented, reflecting what it called increasing acceptance of the ADC as a credible political platform.

The statement noted that the aspirants include a former Secretary to the Rivers State Government, former members of the House of Representatives, and ex-commissioners with experience in public administration.

Others reportedly interested include a former Executive Director at the Nigerian Ports Authority, a former Chairman of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), a former Chief Medical Director of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, and a number of private sector professionals.

The party also confirmed that interest has been expressed in Senate, House of Representatives and State Assembly seats under the ADC platform across Rivers State.

The trend, according to the party, reflects a broader political realignment following the recent declaration by former Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, to contest the 2027 presidential election under the ADC.

The party described Amaechi’s entry into the race as a major boost to its national profile and internal momentum ahead of the polls.
