The Anambra chapter of the PDP has extended an open invitation to former members, including Labour Party’s Peter Obi, to return to the party
The Anambra State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a significant call to all aggrieved and former members, including the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, to return to the party fold.

This invitation comes after an enlarged meeting of the State Executive Committee (SEC) in Awka on Thursday, where the party reviewed its current status and charted a path forward.
Mr. Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, previously served as the running mate to Atiku Abubakar, the PDP presidential candidate in the 2015 presidential election.
However, he subsequently defected to the Labour Party ahead of the 2023 presidential elections, citing an inability to achieve his presidential ambition within the PDP.
The communique, signed by Mr. Chidi Chidebe, Chairman of the PDP in Anambra, emphasised the party’s belief that alliances with “ideologically incompatible political formations, in the guise of coalitions, would likely not yield the desired success.”
“The committee extends an open invitation to all aggrieved and former members of the PDP in Anambra, particularly our revered former governor, Mr. Peter Obi PDP return home and reunite with the now rejuvenated and restructured PDP,” the communique stated.
It further added, “We will gladly welcome our brothers and sisters back to join us in the collective quest for a better Nigeria.”
In a separate appeal, Mr. Chidebe urged the Anambra electorate to support Mr. Jude Ezenwafor and his running mate, Mr. Francis Okeke, in the forthcoming election.
He also called upon the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure a fair, transparent, and impartial electoral process.
“We call on the good people of Anambra to remain steadfast in their historic support for the PDP and to come out en masse to vote for our candidates,” he implored.
The meeting also saw the unanimous nomination of Chief Clems Ezike to fill the vacant position of National Ex-Officio from Anambra.
Mr. Chidebe urged the Southeast Zonal Executive Committee under Chief Ali Odefa to recognise this nomination and transmit it to the national secretariat.
He concluded by commending the party leadership for a successful National Executive Committee meeting on May 27 and expressed satisfaction with the template for resolving its internal crises.
