Peter Obi Criticises Tinubu Over Misleading Economic Claims

Peter Obi criticises Tinubu, accusing the presidency of twisting economic statistics to mask hardship as Nigeria ranks among the world’s hungriest nations

Peter Obi Criticises Tinubu for what he describes as the misrepresentation of Nigeria’s economic data, accusing the President of painting a false picture while citizens face deepening hardship.

Obi, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, made the remarks in a strongly worded post on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday.

He recalled a 2022 campaign jab by then-presidential candidate Tinubu, who dismissed Obi’s data-driven rhetoric, saying: “Na statistics we go chop?”

“Now two years into his 4-year tenure,” Obi wrote, “Nigeria is classified as one of the hungriest nations in the world.”

He claimed that President Tinubu’s administration has been “overfeeding Nigerians with wrong statistics” on unemployment, inflation, and GDP in an attempt to gloss over real economic pain.

“Governance is not a rock science,” Obi said, stressing the need for leadership marked by competence, compassion, and credibility—not propaganda.
