Labour Party Rep Benedict Etanabene pledges Peter Obi 2027 presidential support if he secures ADC ticket, citing vision and leadership as key drivers
As Nigeria approaches the 2027 general elections, Hon Benedict Etanabene, the Labour Party (LP) representative for Okpe/Uvwie/Sapele Federal Constituency, has pledged full support for Mr Peter Obi’s presidential ambition—should he secure the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ticket.

Etanabene made this commitment during a media briefing at the LP secretariat in Effurun, Delta State.
He said he shares Peter Obi’s vision for a better Nigeria and will support him even if it means campaigning outside his own party platform.
“I share in his vision for a better Nigeria,” the lawmaker declared. “I am in no small way committed to the emergence of a person like Mr Peter Obi as the President come 2027.”
He explained that Nigeria’s problem lies not in the lack of talent or leadership, but in wasteful governance.
Etanabene stressed that Peter Obi represents prudent leadership, capable of managing national resources effectively.
Etanabene supported Obi’s rumoured alignment with the ADC, saying it offers a credible opposition platform and could help rescue Nigeria from its economic decline.
He expressed confidence in Obi’s ability to rally like-minded leaders across party lines.
“What we don’t have are people with a mentality of prudent spending,” Etanabene said. “Instead of investing in health, education, and security, the government prioritises jets, luxury cars, and coastal roads worth trillions.”
He criticised extravagant government spending while vital infrastructure and public services remain neglected.
“The former President died in a hospital in London. Why can’t such hospitals be built here?” he asked, calling it a national embarrassment.
Etanabene insisted there is no internal crisis in the Labour Party and said Nigerians must support Peter Obi regardless of party affiliation.
“Every well-meaning Nigerian, irrespective of any party, should rally round Mr Peter Obi to become the President of this country,” he added.

He concluded that Obi’s emergence under the Labour Party in 2023 highlighted the hunger and frustration in the nation, and his leadership in 2027 could bring real change.
