PDP’s Ini Ememobong discusses efforts to reconcile warring factions, stressing viable candidates while maintaining opposition identity
The factional National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ini Ememobong, has provided updates on ongoing efforts to reconcile the party’s warring factions ahead of the next general elections.

A major challenge is the divergence between the faction backed by the Nyesom Wike, which supports an outright second term for Bola Tinubu, and the Kabiru Turaki-led group, which intends to field a viable presidential candidate.
The Wike faction has indicated that the PDP would not present a presidential candidate and may demand that Turaki’s side endorse President Tinubu as a condition for reconciliation.
Ememobong expressed cautious optimism, insisting the PDP would provide candidates at all levels of participation in the upcoming elections.
“Truth is that both hope and delusion are human emotions, and at the end of the day, it is the result that determines which was hope and which was delusion,” he said.
He added, “We may not endorse the President.
We are delegates of power, and we are listening to the delegators who delegated the power to us to act.
When parties come to the table, you come with your reducible minimums.
If there must be peace, one of the terms of the agreement we are going to take will be that we will field candidates at all points. And about presidential candidates, we will provide a viable candidate.”

Ememobong concluded that negotiations would continue with an open mind, but stressed that any reconciliation must preserve the PDP’s identity as an opposition party.
