PDP Reconciliation Moves to End Party Crisis

PDP reconciliation party crisis deepens as NWC confirms efforts to unite factions ahead of the 2027 general elections and restore party unity

The PDP reconciliation party crisis process, according to the party leadership, is designed to bridge differences between rival factions and stabilise the opposition platform following months of internal tension.

In a statement issued on Wednesday and signed by Turaki, the factional PDP National Chairman disclosed that a reconciliation committee has been established to engage with members aligned to the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, in a bid to resolve outstanding disputes.

The party noted that the initiative follows judicial encouragement for internal settlement and is intended to reposition the PDP for stronger electoral participation in 2027.

Turaki stated that the NWC had already taken steps to reduce internal friction, including the postponement of key party meetings and a reduction in confrontational communication among stakeholders.

He, however, expressed concern that some opposing voices within the party had continued to issue what he described as derogatory remarks, warning that such actions could undermine ongoing peace efforts.

Despite the tensions, the party leadership insisted that dialogue between both sides has begun, describing it as a critical step towards lasting reconciliation.

Secondary developments in the statement included a call for party members and aspirants to remain united and focused, with assurances that the PDP would field candidates for all elective positions in line with its constitution.

The leadership also reaffirmed confidence in Nigeria’s democratic process, stressing the importance of a strong opposition and active civic engagement in holding government accountable.

The statement further urged political stakeholders to act responsibly in the national interest, noting that ultimate power resides with the electorate.

In a show of internal solidarity, the NWC passed a vote of confidence on Governors Bala Mohammed and Seyi Makinde, commending their resilience during the ongoing party challenges.
