PDP Eyes Governor Alex Otti Ahead of 2027 Elections, Says Wabara

Senator Adolphus Wabara says PDP will support Governor Alex Otti as its 2027 candidate if he defects, praising his governance and Abia 25-Year Development Plan

Senator Adolphus Wabara, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has indicated that Governor Alex Otti of Abia State may be welcomed into the party ahead of his 2027 re-election bid.

Wabara described Otti as a “major asset” whose governance record makes him attractive across party lines.

Speaking in Umuahia after the launch of the Abia 25-Year Development Plan, Wabara said, “If he makes up his mind to join the Big Umbrella, the party will not hesitate to give him the governorship ticket in 2027.”

He highlighted Otti’s achievements in infrastructure, healthcare, education, industry, and security, noting that the governor’s electric buses for urban mass transit have eased hardship for residents.

Wabara also praised Otti’s commitment to rehabilitating long-neglected roads, recalling his earlier commendation during the reconstruction of Port Harcourt Road in Aba.

The PDP BoT Chairman urged Otti to consider joining the party, especially given ongoing leadership challenges within the Labour Party.

Wabara emphasised that a stronger platform like the PDP would better position Otti for the 2027 elections.

Abia, a traditional PDP stronghold, has experienced shifting political dynamics in recent years.

The PDP governed the state from 1999 until 2015 before losing to the APC, and in 2023, Otti of the Labour Party won the governorship, breaking the dominance of both major parties.

Wabara’s remarks signal the PDP’s intention to attract credible leaders and rebuild its influence in the South-East ahead of 2027, amid internal disputes within the Labour Party and heightened speculation about political realignments in Abia State.
