The Election Petition Tribunal in Ibadan, Oyo State, has dismissed a petition filed by the Social Democratic Party (SDP) challenging the victory of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Honourable Folajimi Oyekunle, in the August 16, 2025, by-election for Ibadan North Federal Constituency.

The SDP had requested the tribunal to nullify Oyekunle’s election and declare its candidate the winner, alleging non-compliance with the Electoral Act 2022.
The party further sought a fresh or supplementary election in affected polling units.
Defending the petition, PDP’s counsel, Tunji Ogunrinde, SAN, questioned the competence of the petition and argued that the SDP failed to list its candidate as a party to the suit.
He urged the tribunal to dismiss the case.
Presiding over the suit (EPT/OY/HR/01/2025), Justice A.M. Yakubu ruled in favour of the PDP, holding that the SDP failed to prove its claims.
The tribunal found the sole witness of the petitioner’s testimony contradictory, unreliable, and inadmissible.

The tribunal consequently dismissed the petition for lacking merit and awarded N2 million in costs to the PDP and Honourable Folajimi Oyekunle.
