Kalu warned that the APC should not rely on political assurances from governors outside the ruling party, insisting that only committed members should be trusted with electoral responsibilities.
He argued that loyalty to the party should be prioritised over political friendships, adding that those genuinely supportive of President Tinubu should formally join the APC rather than remain outside it.
According to the senator, the party must focus on consolidating internal strength and ensuring that only dedicated members are involved in its strategic political direction ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Kalu further stated that the APC required a “level-headed” national chairman capable of strengthening unity and resolving internal challenges, while commending Yilwatda’s leadership style since assuming office.
He also emphasised the importance of membership-driven politics, noting that political strength is built on committed human resources rather than external alliances.
Responding, APC national chairman Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda said the ruling party remained dominant across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, citing recent electoral victories as evidence of its nationwide reach.
Yilwatda highlighted the party’s performance in by-elections across multiple regions, including Kano, Zaria, Adamawa, the South West, South South and South East, describing APC’s spread as a key strength.
He also noted that the party had recorded minimal legal disputes from its internal congresses, attributing this to its preference for arbitration and internal resolution mechanisms.
The APC chairman reaffirmed that the party does not operate on the basis of “friends of the party” but on full membership, stressing that obligations and responsibilities apply strictly to registered members.
